Simon Wake

Bio

Born and raised in the greater Toronto area, Simon was an oddball child who had struggled with learning disabilities before discovering his creativity and talents as a writer. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing at Concordia. After graduating, Simon spent several years writing poetry, travelling and teaching English. He then started teaching in Nunavik and Nunavut, in different Inuit communities. He completed his Masters' of Education at McGill University, focusing on the impact of poetry in teaching in an Indigenous community. Social justice, Indigenous issues and decolonial practices are at the core of his practice. The North and its communities truly impacted both his pedagogy and poetry, and followed him back to Toronto, and now, Montreal.
